Can clay soil be compacted? What equipment is recommended?

Yes, clay must be compacted, but with the right tool.

For clay, a tamper works best. The sharp blow from this machine kneads the soil and removes trapped air, compacting it from the bottom up. If the surface area is very large, ‘goat's foot’ rollers are used.
